Privacy Policy
Last updated October 12, 2026. Applies to the NewsNoodle website (newsnoodle.com) and the NewsNoodle iPhone app.
The short version
- You can read NewsNoodle without an account. Nothing about you is stored beyond ordinary server logs.
- With an account we store your email, a display name, and what you choose to follow, save, and read, so the app can keep your place across devices.
- We don't sell or share your personal data with advertisers. There are no ads and no ad trackers.
- You can delete your account and everything tied to it at any time by emailing support@newsnoodle.com.
What we collect and why
Account
Email address, display name, and a password hash (or, if you sign in with Google, the Google account identifier Google returns). Used only to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
Your choices in the app
Feeds you follow, stories you mark read or save, stock tickers on your watchlist, favorite teams, saved places (a city or ZIP code), a rival city if you set one, notification settings, and the voice you pick for the weather line. These exist so the app can show you what you asked for. They are linked to your account.
Location
If you tap My location on the Weather page, your device asks your permission and sends the coordinates once to fetch a forecast. We don't store your location on your account or track it in the background. Saved places are text you type, not GPS.
Push notifications
If you turn notifications on, we store the push subscription your device gives us so we can send the morning weather and severe alerts. Turning notifications off removes it.
Reading history
When you open or scroll past a story, we record that you read it (the story and the time) so it can leave your unread list and sync between devices. This is visible only to you.
Server logs
Like every website, our hosting provider records requests (IP address, browser, pages fetched) for security and debugging. These logs are kept briefly and are not used to build profiles.
Third-party services
NewsNoodle is built on a few services that process data on our behalf:
- Vercel (hosting) and Neon (database) store the data above.
- The Weather Company receives the coordinates of the place being forecast. ESPN provides scores. Finnhub and Yahoo Finance provide market quotes. None of them receive your account details.
- Anthropic (Claude) and Perplexity generate summaries and the weather and sports one-liners. They receive headlines, article text, scores, and forecast numbers, never your name, email, or location.
- Pusher delivers live updates to open pages. Google handles sign-in if you choose it.
Headlines link to the original publishers; their sites have their own privacy policies.
Cookies
One session cookie keeps you signed in. A few browser-local settings (theme, map style) are stored on your device only. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Children
NewsNoodle is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights
You can see and change what you follow in Settings. To export or delete your account and all data tied to it, email support@newsnoodle.com from the address on the account; deletion is completed within 30 days. If you are in the EU, UK, or California, the rights those laws grant apply to you and this is how to exercise them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top moves and we note the change on the Support page.
